God, I don’t ask for much but let this be real someday

This would be one of those devices that’s so simply ingenious that you can’t believe you didn’t think of it first. A Foleo-esque iPhone/iPod Touch snap-in housing where the face of your device became the trackpad. I want one and although Apple likely won’t be announcing this exact device today, maybe one of you enterprising modders can make it happen. Most of the horsepower comes from your device, keeping costs low.

This design is by Willy Yonkers, which we can all agree is a cool name.

  1. You know, I don’t really lean either way when it comes to computing fanboyism, but this concept does cause my pants to tingle a little bit.

  2. Same here. This just makes so much sense it’s not even funny…

  3. Agreed. I think it would be cool for any company with a touchscreen phone or line of phones to do something like this. Laptops all have different and specific docking stations, most of which sell for around $200 or so. Why not do the same with phones but take the docking station concept a bit further by making these things?

  4. Nice find! I’d love that with a 3G iPhone … though actually there are advantages to having two pieces… a larger tablet like iPhone (Apple MID) would be my first choice there.

  5. Funny, I’ve been saying that Apple should use the iPhone, and iPod Touch, as the multitouch trackpad, since rumors of a multitouch laptop started 6 months ago. Of course, you limit your market way too much for Jobs to seriously consider this, but it would be cool!

  6. Wouldn’t a bluetooth keyboard (with appropriate iphone update to allow bt keys), be a heck of a lot simpler and cheaper
