Are you getting one? Waiting for the multi-touch to come to the MacBook Pro? What the hell is Air?

Nope. Come on, it’s Apple, in eight months they will have a price drop to 1599 and a 128 gb ssd. Never buy first gen Apple anything. I love the macbook air but right now, it’s just not economically sound. Let’s face it, the pro is already small and I can get a hell of a lot more features on it than the $3000 version on the mac book air. I would love a SSD but at the rate that they are being made and the rate of the price drop you’d have to be nuts to get one now just to be one of the first. You’ll look like yesterdays news in October when your buddy buys one for less money that has double the capacity.
I won’t get one. I just got a macbook in November and was worried that I would get buyers remorse. but I honestly don’t think the macbook is too heavy. I also don’t htink I would use the multi touch too much (though it could be like the scroll wheel, once you use it you get mad when its not there) The part I like the most is the SSD. and that needs to come down in price before its an option for most people.
By the way, wasn’t that 832 GB SSD supposed to be at CES. Did that happen?
Ordered one immediately. It will make a great traveler and around the house companion to my 17″ MBPRO. The only thing I overlooked prior to ordering was the lack of an express card slot for my 3G Sprint PCS card…
I bought one immediately also. I was planning on buying a replacement for my slowly failing MacBook over the holidays with the Apple Gift Cards I accumulated, but decided to wait it out for MacWorld. While the MBA is not by any means perfect or good for everybody but it’s just what I need. I travel often and carry my laptop nearly 24/7. Because of that, I will notice a two pound difference. I’ve always thought the MacBook was heavy for how small it is (it’s only .2 pounds lighter than the MBP). I rarely use the optical drive in my MacBook and it actually broke a few weeks ago (just like it did on my old Powerbook).
not interested. it fills a space i don’t need, in between a full-size laptop and a mobile internet device
No thanks – very cool but not what I need or want – I need an updated macbook pro with all the “stuff” SSD option?? and yes I don’t mind luggin around the DVD drive (heck I’ll pay extra for the Blue thingy) So bring that on Mr. Jobs and I’ll send a check for 2K – heavy sigh – I’ll wait till later for all of that. (have you seen the stock price)
The real question is: When will someone figure out a way to crack the case open and offer 64GB SSD upgrades for $300? Probably pretty soon after they hit the streets, so save those pennies, fanboys, you’ll want them this spring.
The macbook air is totally a lipstick laptop. DO NOT WANT. Seriously if this were truly a non-tethered laptop there would WWAN connectivity. I agree with all of the folks who want an updated MBP.
Resisting the urge to buy, as I really need a 15″ screen, but the portability of this system is hard to argue with. In the end, I’m holding out for a quad core Nehalem MBP with 4 gigs of RAM when it’s launched towards the end of 2008.
Do not want. It’s in between a proper MacBook and an internet tablet, but not a particularly good replacement for either. It’s neither fish nor fowl. I’d rather have a MacBook (more functional, for less money) or – since this thing’s primary purpose seems to be portable browsing and email – a Nokia N810 (for way, way less money).
Definitely would not buy one. I agree with Justin Ried, for basic web browsing, web surfing, email I’d rather have a Nokia N810, which looks to be a far better device that fills the gap between laptop and Smartphone, and is a hell of a lot cheaper to boot.
I wont get one, because I just do not need one. I got a laptop 2 years ago with a 1400×900 screen resolution, there is simply no way I can go back to 1280×780. I can’t.
Same with hard drive, 4200rpm, I can’t. I need a snappy machine, especially with leopard. The ssd version is just insanely too expensive. The MacBook Air is a nice piece of hardware though, but the thickness of the MacBooks is not an issue for me.
So, I am going to wait for the next MacBook Pros. Did I mention “never buy a first gen Apple product… NEVER” ?
Ordered one for my wife. I don’t recommend this as a primary machine for most users, but it makes a good secondary (but expensive) laptop.
The Macbook Air sure is tempting but I won’t be getting one. I really am waiting for the Macbook with the touch interface. The Macbook Air sure is a great companion for Jet setters as its light and compact but I am in the ad industry so might as well wait for the touchscreen Macbook Pro.
Hell, no. That thing is too heavy to be an ultraportable and too expensive and weak to be a take-everywhere traveling machine. It actually would be a good product (though still overpriced) for a world that doesn’t exist (yet), where all media is distributed via the cloud instead of plastic discs and where Wi-Fi or UWB broadband was really ubiquitous. Unfortunately, here in the real world we still use DVDs and an 80 GB hard drive is way too paltry. Call me when the future arrives.

YES I WILL BUY THE MACBOOK AIR WITH THE 1.8 GHZ CPU AND 64 GB SSD DRIVE I LIKE THE LED SCREEN AND SOLID STATE DRIVE IT BE FASTER THEN THE G4 IBOOK AT ONLY 1.44 GHZ AND 60 GB HDD WITH OPICAL DRIVE TOO I WILL HAVE MOBILE HALO ON THE GO I HAVE NOT USED MORE THEN 20 TO 30 GB OF THE STORAGE CAPACITY ANY WAYS.
The only thing that stopped me buying the MacBook Air was the lack of larger hard drive. I think 100 Gb is now the bare minimum and with downloadable movies coming at us now, we need more space not less.
I am waiting for the 128 Gb SSD drive to come. I am also looking forward to Centrino 2 (Penryn/ Montevina chipset) because by all accounts this is a real step up in terms of performance while using less power, and running cooler.
