It’s not like there’s been any shortage of camera news around here, we know this. But we have more, more, more, this time from the likes of the lovely people at Samsung, who’ve today announced a camera called the i8.

The cute little point ‘n shoot comes in a variety of colors and has 8.2 Megapixels for your shooting pleasure, and a 3x optical zoom for the pointing part. Anti-shake is included, as is face detection and “smart tools”, a collection of presets that make the simple camera even more simple.

But there are other weird features, like a text reader and travel guide and virtual 3D surround that make this a little more than a simple shooter. While most people wouldn’t use the extras, it’s good to know that they’re there.

We’ve been impressed with the compact cameras Samsung’s put out in the last couple years, and while we haven’t had a chance to handle one of these ourselves yet, we see no reason to think this is anything but another winner.
