In the never ending race to produce the TV, Sharp has taken a slight edge over its Japanese and Korean counterparts. The AQUOS X-series, announced today, comes in 37-, 42- and 46-inch models that are 1.35-inches thin. The LCDs are of the 120Hz, 1080p blend with a contrast ratio of 15,000:1 with 12-bit BDE color. They also include a 3-way 8-speaker system with 1-bit digital amp. No word on price, but they hit the Japanese market March 1.

Thin? No one wants thin! They want ports! DVD drives! 9Ghz dual quad processors! liquid cooling! But thin!?!? thin! It will never sell!
I don’t care so much about the thinness so much as how light it is. Considering how many people like to “wall mount” their flat panels (no matter how terrible a viewing angle that ACTUALLY is) it will greatly improve how stable those mounts are…
I fail to see how weight factors into wall mounting. I can see idiots buying cheap wall mounts unsuitable for the size of the tv and using drywall screws to screw it into the drywall. But they are just that – idiots.
My 46″ is wall mounted and looks awesome. And any decent wall mount kit (like the one I own) will allow for adjustment of viewing angle of the TV.
Well, it factors into many things, like how far into the stud you go, what degree of tools you need, etc. Weight means quite a bit when mounting anything, no matter what it is, onto a wall.
And by angle, I refer to the angle of the human neck – mount a TV too high, and it’s not as comfortable – mount it lower, and people don’t find it aesthetically pleasing. That’s all.
I don’t wall mount. My plasma is just on a stand/table thing. It’s at a perfect viewing angle when sitting anywhere in the room. A little low if you’re standing (playing guitar hero or the like) but who really cares about that.
Anyway, I’m excited about the thinness. Then they’ll start working on the weight once they’ve all gotten as thin as they can come.
It is samsung again. Now we can have TV which is just a quarter inch thick. Damn it is thinner than mobile set.
