Jailbroken iPhones, iPod Touches not working with forthcoming SDK?

The guys over at iPhone Atlas have a pretty good point in today’s blog, namely that those of you rushing to Jailbreak your 1.1.3 iPhones and iPod Touches might just be screwing yourselves later, as the Jailbreaking process disables a relevant part of the device’s OS, called Nikita, which apparently helps with future third-party apps.

While it’s not yet confirmed if Jailbreaking does prevent legit third-party apps from installing and running, it’s something to consider when decided to Jailbreak or not.

Warning: Current iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak may prevent official third party apps [iPhone Atlas]

Three things..

First - If this is the case, then I’m sure there will be a patch or workaround released through the community that will allow for usage of this. But if it is unpatchable….

Second of all, if the SDK is brilliant and completely replaces the need to jailbreak (which I highly doubt it will) - then you can always do a software restore back to an earlier version and update to the normal, vanilla 1.1.3.

Lastly, In the article it also states that the method that the Dev Team is planning to release post-sdk will indeed be able to co-exist with legit third party apps. So this can also be combined with the above method - when the Dev Team releases their jailbreak, simply restore, rejailbreak, and you’re good to go.

Main thing I want to point out - It’s a very reversible process, especially on the Touch.

Oh I totally agree, especially with the second point: once the SDK does its thing with vendors, Jailbreaking may (likely will) become redundant. But it’s still something to think about. :-)

I always go back to “Why Bother to Jailbreak when you can just learn how to fake genuine authentication”? Why hack the iPod when you can hack iTunes?

i bought the 5 new apps they have for the touch. if i jailbroke my touch then say i needed to restore it to get these new legal apps coming out would i still have my 5 apps that i legitimatly bought?
