Man oh man, do I miss Snickers. When I worked in an office, I used to eat one (and only one) each day. Yum. Now that there’s going to be a Snickers bar infused with caffeine, taurine, and B vitamins, I’m going to have to seriously reconsider starting up my Costco membership again.
So how does it taste? Let’s check in with Candy Blog.
It smells much like the regular Snickers, has the same texture … same crunchy peanuts, chewy caramel and super-sweet nougat with a hit of salt. And then it comes along, the caffeine kick. And when I say kick, I mean in the mouth. It’s a bitter aftertaste that sits high and in the back of the mouth. It just kind of lingers there, like maybe it’s not something you ate but something you smelled (sometimes strong skunk will do that to me). And it stays with you, probably as long as the caffeine is in your system. I clocked my aftertaste for eating one half of a bar at 90 minutes.
I’m willing to put up with the strong-skunk aftertaste but I’m somewhat of a buzz junkie. You’ll probably have a hard time trying to get “regular” people to eat these but, at the same price as a regular Snickers bar, you won’t be out too much if your grandma doesn’t like the taste.
I’m not sure if these are available yet, as Candy Blog got some samples directly from Mars, Inc. but I’ll be checking my local convenience and grocery stores like a hawk.

How much caffeine did they add?
(and my biochemist girlfriend points out to me that chocolate already contains caffeine… so technically ALL Snickers are caffeinated…)
Trae Dorn – if you click through to the link you’ll see that it has 60 mgs of caffeine added. (Yes, chocolate has caffeine and some other alkaloid compounds that act like caffeine, but in about the same quantity as decaf coffee.)
wow
if they would just add some booze in there
I’m eating one as I type – well, I’m taking typing breaks. I got two the day before this blog was written and had the first yesterday when I needed a little something at work – loved it so much I’m eating the second one now for that boost – AND it’s a great snack! The Candy review is right – you can taste the bitter caffeine and I’m not fond of the taste, but I DO like the buzz! And maybe it’s all in my head, but I feel like I can focus better, also. Often a caffeine boost will make it hard to focus, but not this one. In fact, I like the combination so much I’m looking for other products with caffeine, taurine (whatever that is), and B-vitamins (preferably with fewer calories – I don’t think the now incessant leg-shake is burning off enough of the 250 calories packed into this little guy).

That “smooth” buzz is most likely the Taurine. You can get a similar effect from some of the better energy drinks. I find Low Carb Monster Energy Drink to work best but your mileage may vary.
Doug, do you even know what Taurine is? Nice pic by the way. Have another beer.
Caffeine is tasteless. So why do you say there is a caffeine taste? Could it be the taurine or something else? The B-vitamins???
This candy bar has less of an after taste than a diet soft drink . In my opinion it was very good. A little different than a regular Snickers but not enough to put me off. I’ll buy it again.
Caffeine is NOT tasteless. It tastes foul.
Caffeine is good for energy and Taurine is more stimulating to the mind as opposed to a physical stimulation like with caffeine. It gives you better mental focus and makes your mind that little bit sharper.
These taken together are good for before a workout (i use them together)
You can buy both in pure powder form cheap from ebay.
200mg caffeine + 2g Taurine is a good mix in orange or apple juice.
Never tried these new snickers though.
Kids can walk right into the grocery and buy it. They pumped loads of suger into cereals in the 60’s because of the cocaine like properties of sugar that drove kids to eat more of it. If they could, they’d put illegal narcotics in our food for kids. the government needs to crack down on this. I already wound up in the ER room with an overdose of caffeine from sports drinks.
