T-Mobile’s numbers are up in 2007

T Mobile Team 2007T-Mobile just released some new numbers, stating that in 2007 it signed up 3.6 million new subscribers, 77% of them on contract (as opposed to pre-paid or month-to-month).

That’s good news for America’s second largest GSM carrier, especially considering it has yet to launch a public 3G network, something we expected from last year. T-Mobile can thank loyal Sidekick users and its Five Faves for the growth, as texting and voice calling fans, at least those who don’t or rarely use data, really get everything they need.

Chet (Who am I?)

Personally, I think that some of T-mobile’s success has to do with their un-phone company-like customer service. In other words, it’s good.

Having been a customer of several competitors, I’ve now been with T-mobile for nearly 6 years, and if I have to call them about an issue, a PERSON answers the phone, speaks to me as if they are literate and educated in my native language, and usually SOLVES THE PROBLEM in less than 5 minutes.

And it gets better. I just recently got a BlackBerry on T-mobile. As soon as you call customer service and mention that you have a BlackBerry with a data plan, you are kicked up into some sort of dreamy customer service nirvana. It’s really quite amazing how many times you’ll hear words like ‘apologize’, ’sorry’, and ’sir’.

Kudos to T-mobile for understanding what it takes to keep and attract loyal customers. But, dang, bring me that 3G goodness already!
