I think you need the IQ of Forrest Gump to appreciate that game. Looks pretty weak to me.

It’s just Fox battling a Pokemon. Probably something that happens in story-mode?
Yeah, that looks like Story Mode to me. More specifically, the game mode has been dubbed “Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary” and it’s largely based on classic side-scrolling action, capped off by boss battles like the one shown above. The cutscene involving Diddy is supposed to be pretty typical of this game mode too.
