In short it bypasses the locked-ness of the PSP slim's motherboard so that you can install your custom firmware off of a Memory stick. it's a bit of an intimidating process because you need to "unlock" your battery and your Memory stick. I would find a nerdy PSP friend of the like who could do it for you. Or you could undertake the process yourself, seeing as if you follow the proper directions you won't screw anything up.
