Upgraded iPods shorting out headphones?

There are some reports of 500mv of DC current popping up from 1.1 firmware iPod Classics. It seems there is some sort of software problem that makes the devices short out when the iPods are off and causes hissing when they’re on. Anyone experiencing this?

yeah, i definitely experience this on my ipod classic (v1.1). it usually doesn’t happen right away. you have to turn the ipod off and just leave the headphones in your ears for another couple of minutes before you hear the hissing static. the hissing stops if you turn the ipod back on immediately.
the new firmware also seems to make the volume jump randomly to very high levels. i’ve nearly had my eardrums blown out because of this.

Something weird happened to me with my old iPod 5th gen the other day, and this is the 2nd pair of headphones for this to happen to aswell.
The left earbud has stopped working fully. If I jam it way into my ear I can hear faint sounds, so I know it is still somewhat working, but other than that it’s gone. And I don’t listen to my music that loudly. I hardly ever go above half way on the volume bar. I don’t listen to heavy metal or any of that head banging crap. I listen to like the Killers and the Gorillaz and Death Cab for Cutie. I’m not a loud-music-listening-to kinda guy, so it must be my iPod right? I only use my headphones with my iPod, and it has happened TWICE now.
Once with the stock iPod headphones, and now just recently with a nicer pair of in-ear noise canceling headphones. Man it really sucks too because I really liked em.
