Jawbone’s viral videos: Ummm… OK

You know what? I’m tired of viral video. Just by posting it here I fall into the trap and there’s really no way around it — it’s a win-win for the advertiser and makes us look like rubes. The story is this: formerly staid and upright Bluetooth headset maker seems to be trying to shed its boring, Star Trek image by making a bunch of silly viral videos, this one included. Isn’t just making a good product enough? Just for the record, Peter Ha’s laundry-folding family is not amused.
What they should have done is hired this girl. She is clearly plugged into the pulse of a nation.

Give a guy a NSFW warning with that “hired this girl” link. Seriously. I don’t know what the hell that was but, some man/woman naked from the waist up, shot to just above the nipples isn’t exactly a link you just drop on somebody without a warning.

What’s offensive? They are championing the Asian community. Coming from Filipino descent myself(my parents are immigrants who speak little to no English) , I definitely think they are championing the Asian community. Jawbone took an offensive situation that has DEFINITELY occurred (where a patron to a dry cleaners was being racist or offensive for for whatever reason) and saying that they should be eliminated.
All of those videos on jawbonefilms share the same theme: eliminating an offensive noise be it annoying frat guys, loud polish guy, or drunk rugby players.

Maybe your trolling but, I’ll bite… It’s offensive because shows flaunts one asian stereotype to defeat another asian stereotype. To say that someone is good at math because they are asian is still putting someone in a box because of their appearance rather than by who they really are even if you think you are giving someone a compliment. Saying black people can dance vs saying they are violent isn’t any less of an assumption based off the color of their skin. And this ISNT EVEN A POSITIVE IMAGE OF ASIAN PEOPLE. They killed a man for insulting them. With their KUNG-FU? This is a silly racist ad that goes on the assumption that people will have the same outlook on it that you had, that somehow asian people kill offensive people with their martial arts skills.
