Ships did not cut undersea cable

Da-dunt! Da-dunt! Da-dunt! I can’t stand it/I know you planned it… Well, it seems ships didn’t break the network cable links to Egypt — now they’re suspecting submarines. Not sure what to make of this development and unless Islamo-fascists have access to undersea vehicles and care enough to keep the devleloping world from connecting to the Internet, I don’t know who to blame.

“A marine transport committee investigated the traffic of ships in the area, 12 hours before and after the malfunction, where the cables are located to figure out the possibility of being cut by a passing vessel and found out there were no passing ships at that time,” said the statement.

That map is actually quite amazing. I can’t imagine the manpower and time to lay all of that cabling.

How about Israel having cut them?
They got subs and they have motive.
Their internet hasn’t been effected and with the current problems in Egypt’s Sinai area, it would be to their advantage if any ‘terrorists’ in Egypt or the surrounding areas couldn’t make their Skype calls or watch that Godaddy Internet only Super Bowl add.

Scott Adams has a great little bit on the incident (http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/):

“Recently I saw some stories on the Internet about three undersea Internet cables being “accidentally” cut within a brief period. Lots of countries were affected, but the most interesting impact is Iran’s Internet traffic (allegedly) dropping to zero.”

“In my book, The Religion War (sequel to God’s Debris), shutting down the Internet was the first step before the Christian Alliance attacked the Muslim Caliphate. The idea was to shut down all outbound communication from the war zone so the Christian armies could attack in ways that their own citizens wouldn’t support if they knew about it.”

“It seems highly coincidental that three undersea cables get cut and the only country entirely shut off is Iran. I doubt it is the first step before war, but you can’t help raising an eyebrow when reality starts to intersect with fiction.”
