AT&T exchanging recent 8GB iPhones for 16GB iPhones

Just a note, recent iPhone owners: if you purchased your iPhone within the last 30 days, you’re good to go for an exchange. Just bring yours in, with all its gear, and your receipt, you walk out with a 16GB iPhone. Then swap the SIM, sync it up, and you’re golden. You can thank us later.

Anyone know if this also applies to iPhones purchased at an Apple retail store ?

I am pretty sure this was meant as a joke. Considering the 16GB iPhone is $100 more than the 8GB phone, they are not going to just give you a new one. The 8GB model is still available, and not something that is discontinued, the 16GB model was just added to the line for people who need more storage. The other key is when it says “swap the SIM” as I cannot remember Apple letting us just swap the SIM chips in our iPhones.

  You can just “swap the SIM” in an iPhone. It’s locked to AT&T, not a specific user. If you are within 30 days, your within the return time and should be able to swap for a 16GB (+ $100) without a problem.

Hi there,

I just contacted AT&T and found out some details.
They will swap out your recently bought iPhone (within the last 14 days…not 30) for the $100 difference, PLUS a 10% restocking fee.

It’s not a bad deal either way. If you meet these requirements and don’t mind the upcharge, you can take your phone into any AT&T store, the rep told me.

I just called AT&T customer service and they said if you are under their 15 day return policy you can bring your 8GB iPhone back, and 10% of your purchase price for their restocking fee, you can get the 16GB. Where did you get your information from?

I swapped mine for $107 after so many hassles from the Apple store with no Restocking fee.

Sorry, yes, to clarify it’s also $100 more. Sorry for the confusion. But the point is, you’re not locked out of an exchange. I’m sorry to hear some of you are only getting 15 days, my local store in Seattle offered 30.
