swbug.jpgThis was a rather interesting section of the Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. From our press materials; “Visitors build a spaceport, moisture farm community and walled Jawa town. Placing cards on a table – the physical landscape – a computer superimposes a building on a site in virtual reality and real time.”

It was kind of a Sony EyeToy meets Microsoft Surface meets Sim City meets Settlers of Catan. The kids were going nuts for this thing. They looked like me at a Milli Vanilli concert back in the day. It was intergalactical, my main man.

  • Hi Doug –

My name is Nick Hedley – I designed the Star Wars WSMI Augmented Reality exhibit.

The project was rewarding for a number of reasons ->

    - developing new ways to engage museum-goers
    - developing a multi-level interaction design
    - build and manage a real-time 3D virtual community’s resources
    - no 2 user experiences are the same
    - exploring new appraoches to universal design interfaces
    - seeing the impact it had on museum-goers of all ages!

Very cool to see kids still enjoying the exhibit.

    Best regards, Nick H.
