Apple might make a handheld game console AND/OR make a robotic monkey to fetch your colostomy bag

imageagentproxy.jpegApple just trademarked some sort of weird logo for a hand-held gaming rig which everyone is speculating is actually some sort of very exciting Apple-branded handheld game system that will work with iTunes and be the best thing in the world. What I really think is going on here is that Apple is trademarking a logo for when some crazy Chinese pirate company starts making “Apple” branded game units or this has already happened and they’re just doing due diligence. Chances of an Apple game console? Slim to 5%.

Toys, games and playthings, namely, hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games

  • Clearly Apple will re-enter the video game system market, since the Apple Pippin was such a major success.

    *cough*

And if you believe that, I’ve got some swamp land in Florida you might be interested in… :P

  • …or Apple is just preventing someone else from calling their handheld game device the “Apple Gamer” or the “Apple DS360″ with the excuse that Apple didn’t protect the name in that market therefore has no claim to it.

    Gotta protect the brand.

Another possibility: The inevitable games that will appear on the iPod Touch and iPhone will probably get their own WiFi Store icon separate from “iTunes”. Press here to shop for Music, press here to shop for games.
