Didn’t see this one coming at all. I thought everything was peaches and cream between Starbucks and T-Mobile. Apparently not. The coffee giant has announced they’ve inked a deal with AT&T to bring free and paid wireless Internet services to a local Starbucks near you. AT&T Internet subscribers are privy to unlimited Wi-Fi.

In addition to the free Wi-Fi access for qualifying AT&T customers and any Starbucks Card holder, customers will be able to purchase tiered access to the AT&T Wi-Fi network at Starbucks at attractive price points. For a two-hour period, customers will pay just $3.99 per session. Monthly membership will also be available for $19.99 per month, and will include access to any of AT&T’s 70,000 hot spots in 89 countries around the world.

The new Wi-Fi service from AT&T will roll out market-by-market starting in the spring and finishes up by year’s end.

  • I guess the Starbucks wanker demographic crosses over a lot with the iPhone wanker demographic.

  • Excellent!

I’m still mad at T-Mobile for screwing me a few years ago. I signed up for a plan at a Starbucks that seemed to cost just a few bucks. After connecting for maybe 6 – 8 hours over 3 or 4 sessions, I got a bill for about $100. The smug rep that I talked to on the phone told me that if I committed to a one year plan, she’d cut my bill in half. Fuck that!

What comes around, goes around. Die! Die Die! Nyeh.

  • they still don’t get it – wifi is a commodity. I don’t got to starbucks because the wifi is pay-only.

Fuck wifi. Who needs it anyway. People who go to a coffee shop to use their computer are idiots. But if that is the only way to get fools to buy overpriced hot beverages, then I guess they need to offer the service.I can’t wait until coffee shops go away. YOu can get great coffee from a vending machine these days.
