Rumor: iPhone, iPod Touch to get price drop
by Peter Ha on February 11, 2008

iphone_sale.jpgThere comes a time when I just want to vomit and never ever look at certain topics in the tech/gadget world. That day has come for Apple. Frankly, I’m just sick and tired of the rumors about this and that that seem to pop up every single day. Last week there was a rumor that Apple would hold an event at the end of this month. And now rumors say the iPhone and iPod Touch will see a $100 price drop. If you’re going to drop the price of something then why don’t you flippin’ do it when you announce your new products? The 8GB iPod Touch is supposedly being dropped from the lineup as well. The price drop could be as early as this month, but we might not see it until mid-April. We’ll put out our feelers.

$100 price drop on iPhones and iPods coming in the next two months [9to5 Mac]

  • If you’re so tired of it, Peter Ha, why blog about it? Lame shilling for page views. And yet I willingly contribute by repeatedly refreshing to see if anyone has commented on my comment. And so it goes.

    • Not trying to shill, but it is a pretty big deal if the price drop occurs. 9to5 is usually good with their rumors.

      • Sure. I just mean the tone of your post is all “I really don’t think people need to write/read these stupid Apple rumors any more.” And yet you’re writing them so we can read them. Which we do. Stop enabling us! CrunchGear can lead the way in killing off the Apple rumor mill! :-)

  • If this price drop occurs, it will be necessary only if Apple announces a 3G phone to debut in the late spring/early summer. They would need to stimulate buyers.

My guess is that a price drop wouldn’t occur for 6 months - simply, prices will come down on the 32GB and a 32GB iPhone could appear for the fall.

  • Peter Ha, surely price will drop. Everyone knows it’s just a matter of time. But why rumors? you are the one rumoring!
If Apple had drop it when upgrading the memory they would get shot again for punishing early adopters. Apple then went for different approach which was maintaining the price while upgrading with higher capacity, thus caused the highest capacity gadgets cost like a bomb. Then hoping everyone would would comment & blog that price too high, why not drop it, which contrasted the writers’ earlier statement not to punish early adopters. But that did not happen. No one seems upset with the price increase.
(Though we all did pull our wallet along and hold on to the purchase)
Then Apple can’t absorb that price hike, as they can’t stand lower sales & not meeting target and stiff competition. So price drop is surely on the way. Price drop for tech stuff is always on, where it’s steve job or stiff jobs!

No pretty big deal for price drop, Peter Ha!

jj550, you gave Peter a shot in his face… wakakakaka!
aka… Peter said “I really don’t think people need to write/read these stupid Apple rumors any more.”

Danno Bonano, you got it wrong.
waiting six months meant 2/3 of year 2008 past.
Reaching Sept/Oct, that’s the time Apple’s coming out with new upgrades again to stimulate year end holiday sales. So, they must need a stimulation before that to bring sales up. What else if not lowering price & upgrade spec.
Upgrade/Refreshing the iPod lineups means either with new software or new look… but since they renew the look last year… this year’s gonna be software & capability… you guys should notice iPod hardware & software upgrade happens alternate period
