HSUPA PC/Express cards from Option loosed on AT&T

Today, Option announced the GT Ultra and GT Ultra Express for AT&T’s 3G BroadbandConnect and EDGE networks. The GTU works with any laptop with a PC Card Type II slot while the GTUE is, you guessed it, Express card slots. Both cards are tri-band UMTS/HSPA and GPRS/EDGE compatible. The GTUE has a flip-up antenna and automagically installs A&T’s Communication Manager when plugged into a Windows: Vista, XP or 2000 machine. Both cards play nice with PCs and Macs. They’re both $50 after a mail-in rebate and new two-year contract that’s at least $60. However, starting tomorrow you can get one for free with a two-year contract and an additional rebate.

Can anyone comment on which is better between broadband dongles on a CDMA network (Verizon or Sprint) or GSM network (T-Mo or AT&T)? Preferably someone who has used both. Thanks.

  • i’ve used the sprint card for a few years w/ a mac and enjoy the speed. Don’t know if a 3G card via AT&T can beat their speed though in Southern California

  • i’ve used both very recently.
I first had the ATT one because i already have an ATT cell phone. the coverage/service/speed is absolutely horrendous. I borrowed a friend’s verizon card that rocked so i went out and bought that and it is very solid. great coverage, great speed, cool flip up antenna that actually makes a difference.

Verizon PC card beats the ATT one hands down–at least for me
