Team Xecuter, whose X2 Pro modchip I used on my Xbox1 back in the day, appears to have developed a kit that fixes red ring of death-affected Xbox 360s. The kit, which costs $12.95, includes all the necessary Torx screws to open your console. The kit was developed by an Xecuter member whose 360 rrod’d on him recently. Rather than send it in to Microsoft to be repaired, he tinkered with it, trying to figure out what went wrong.

The kit is said to have worked on 18 of 18 broken 360s.

If the kit works as advertised—it’s due for release “soon”—it would represent a better alternative to sending in your 360 to Microsoft. We all know how well that can sometimes go. At least it’s not a widespread problem or anything…

  • ’bout time! I’m surprised this hadn’t been developed earlier considering the 33% failure rate…

    • Please get your facts straight. It’s 16% failure rate.

    • Hi,

It doesn’t matter whether its 16% or 32%. All it matters is now our Xbox 360 is dead. Including Mine :(

I fixed my Xbox with some information I found online. For the past two weeks it works fine. Hence I thought of sharing the information with you people and created a webpage on the same. This webpage deals mainly with fixing your Xbox 360.

You can do it in your home by just making some adjustments in the X-Clamps. It works. Here is the full details on how to do it.

I’m sure it will be very useful to fix your Xbox 360.

      Cheers

  • This is the second time Im getting the red ring of death. The first time, I send the console to Microsoft and let them deal with it, I had to wait for about 4 weeks to get it back.

Let me give anyone reading this some advice, DON’T SEND YOUR CONSOLE TO THE FACTORY!!! . 2 weeks after getting my Xbox 360 back from them, The red ring of death appeared.

But now I realized how easy it was to fix the (RROD). I actually fixed it myself, I did not think I could do it, that’s why I send it to Microsoft the first time around.

The Guide I used was really easy to follow, It had step by step instruction on how to fix my console. My cousin had recommended it to me.

He told me about a good red ring of death resource here is the site http://www.xbox360redringofdeath.com
It’s pretty cool It has some great stuff on there man.

  • a 1% failure rate in the Wine Industry is a disaster. 1%. Any other industry with a 1% failure rate would have to explain itself.

  • Its real easy to stick penny’s on top of the chip and put the heat sink back on, this holds the chip down onto the motherboard so if the solders melt, there will still be contact and no red ring. This is a very easy fix and it works. I also don’t suggest wrapping your 360 in a towel. This may be a temporary fix, but my investigation shows that it melts other solders on other critical components. One thing about penny’s other than dimes is that copper doesn’t hold heat in, therefore the heat would travel through the penny and on to the heat sink. I purchased 3 Xbox 360’s with the RROD, and tried different ways of fixing this problem, and this process worked on all 3. All 3 played for hours with Call of Duty: World at War.

  • The real problme is that an or multiple sodder connections have melted(sodder break). For those of u who don’t know sodder is what holds wires together. The simple and real way to fix it is to open up the console and redo the soddering. There is heat resitent sodder available but microsoft are cheap bastards who wont use it.I’m also not going to say this is cheep thing to do. Because it’s not. It requires a soddering iron(estimated cost 30$-100$),sodder(estimated cost 5$)and you choice of xbox 360 opening equipment(estamed cost 5$-40$ depending on which type you by because there many ways to open it).And last but not least the skill needed to perform the task. You can learn the simple soddering skill you would need to do this on the internet. For all of those wondering about the Towel trick. It works is because that can remelt the alredy melted sodder connections back together. This is not the best fix because you can also melt other conections inside the xbox 360. Damaging it worse! Im not guarantine a 100% fix. You should also make sure you have a sodder melt. Because if you don’t then none of this will help! The 3 Red Rings indicate you have a sodder melt but never rely on a machine to tell you whats rong with itself! For thoes of you who are adveturous and dont have the Red Ring then you can still resodder the wires with the heat resitent sodder. Finaly please don’t ask me how to sodder!

  • Placing pennys on the chip is a much better solution, here is why. The Center of the chip is raised just a little bit more than the outsides of it, there is room to expand around the core. The solders do not melt, they soften to a soft state. When this occurs, the extreme heat on the chip causes it to warp making each side of the chip move upward, stretching the solder to the point of breaking. Placing objects, in this case penny’s, on the chip to fill space in between the chip and the heat sink will keep if from warping and breaking solders. Once you do this, you will not have to worry about the chip coming loose, just because the solders are soft, they are not going to break just because they are hot, they do not melt off either. The solders being soft also doesn’t effect data transfer. This is very easy to understand and does not require much effort.

  • My xBox 360 died from RRoD but I brought it back to life! I sent it back to Microsoft 5 times and they returned it with a partial fix that lasted a few weeks each time. Then I came across an xBox 360 repair kit that fixed my Red Ring of Death – permanently.

  • New developments! 2 of my 3 Xbox 360’s, both motherboards were warped downward. Solution, wrap 9 penny’s in a square shape in electrical tape, make sure no copper is exposed, go below the motherboard, place the rig underneath the protective insulation where the GPU is located. This helps with contact with the GPU, in some cases may fix the problem.

  • what is the substance that you reapply after opening the xbox and cleaning the microchips under the xclamp?

  • I got my Xbox 360 in December of 2007. I only play on the weekends (except during the summer) and when I play, I play for only an hour and then I let it rest. I usually do not start playing again until 30 minutes or more of letting it cool down. With this playing schedule, is there a chance that I will get the infamous Red Ring of Death?
