It’s official: Blu-ray wins

hddvdrip

It’s over, and Blu-ray wins. The main backer of the HD DVD format for next-gen video discs, Toshiba, has itself withdrawn from production of said discs. Without Toshiba to lead the way, HD DVD is more or less a done format.

We feel bad for supporters of the format, but they welcoming arms of Blu-ray will be open, waiting to embrace you and make you feel sorry of ever doubting it.

And to everyone who I’ve had Blu-ray vs. HD DVD arguments with in the last three years: Yes, you told me so, now STFU.

Goodbye cruel shallow world, it’s time to move into a better place where I can live with HD-DVD forever … fuck really why? Why? WHY? This is uber ultimate weak sauce for cereal.

Swizeet! Maybe now I’ll be able to get all the cool good movies that were on HD-DVD with Blu-Ray. I’m glad it’s finally over and I picked the right format. Even if HD-DVD won PS3 games would still be on Blu-Ray, which is all I got it for in the first place. Blu-Ray movies were just an added bonus

Hmmm.. this isn’t talking about HD-DVD, http://www.nhk.or.jp/daily/english/dailynews1.html ?

yes,I’ll be able to get all the cool good movies that were on HD-DVD with Blu-Ray.i am really looking forward to it.——-My name is wayland. Before, My life is full of loneliness and discrimination. I had few friends. I was afraid of coming out. Till one day, my friends told a good place gaysinglehunt.com where i made many gay friends. My life changed, no longer lonely,no discrimination. I am a happy gay now. I just want to say: Gay orientation isn’t wrong.

brandon

Gay orientation is wrong. If it wasn’t, shouldn’t gays be able to reproduce. If everyone took this..”alternative”…wouldn’t the world die out?

michael (Who am I?)

Is a sterile woman and a fertile man “wrong” too then? Just because two can’t necessarily reproduce doesn’t make it wrong. The fact of the matter is, not everyone is gay, and there will never be a point in time where EVERYONE is gay, so don’t worry about gay people ending civilization. I know this is off topic or whatever, but ignorance like this must stop.

SJC

We shouldn’t support homosexuality nor bash it. If we’d just leave it alone for once, everyone can move on with their busy, busy lives.

Hey, time to send in my college transc-o wait, gotta argue with some PC-oriented asshole.

Hm…you know what, I think I’ve just proven that internet debates promote poverty. And, of course, STDs. Not just any STDs, the ones that give you all kinds of spots and bumps on your dick that make you feel like you’re pissing glass. Oh yeah, that kinds.

REMEMBER KIDS INTERNET DEBATES ARE THE WORK OF SATAN READ YOUR BIBLES

You really did jump the gun by posting this article.

It’s anything but official. When it actually becomes official, which is not even a 100% certanty yet, THEN AND ONLY THEN use “official”

Tossing that word around when unidentified sources report to news agencies that they MIGHT stop production after a PENDING review that has VARIOUS other factors are involved makes you lose all credibility

John (Who am I?)

I don’t think it’s jumping the gun at all, when Toshiba says that they won’t support the format, that’s pretty much it. HD-DVD has been getting kicked around by everyone lately, only a matter of time before they threw in the towel before the losses got too great.

How the hell do all these bots get on here guys?

I was hoping the war would continue, so that consumers could reap the benefits of lower prices - competition brings us the best products.

Oh well. As an owner of both formats, I look forward to stocking up on cheap used HD DVDs in the next 6 months.

It makes me feel bad for all the poor people who invested big cash in a format that is officially now dead. Sure you could have guessed which side to go with, but when a format is dead, you fucked if your with that format. But I didn’t pick a side, so I’m golden.

I am an hd dvd supporter, and i’m so sad their losing… they only got terminator 3, i wanted the first two damnit… i don’t really want to buy a ps3 but this gives me a good reason to

brad

Looks like I am buying a PS3 afterall! YES I NEEDED A REASON!

Bollywood Movie

Its really strange I was thinking this final show down was atleast a year away. But sony Blu ray with its disk capacity always had the upper hand.

Anyways, good to finally come down to one format… not that i care about it.. since its years away from being in mass.

SONY got beat bad! back in the day when the format war was Beta vs. VHS for 1/2″ tape, and they were not going to let it happen again plain and simple…

James

I don’t understand why DIGG users are all helpless fanboys of stupid things like High quality video formats, Who gives a fuck about blu-ray vs HD-DVD really? I’m glad one of them is dead so i can stop seeing these stupid fucking articles about them all day “WOOT POINTZ 4 BLU-RAY! 11325 diggs”

Fuck.

One day, we’ll be able to look back, and tell our children about the great battles that were fought during the Format Wars, and regale how we, the consumer army, fought gallantly and to the bitter end, through rumor, stats and FUD, until a winner was declared.

Yo, I’ll deliver your HD-DVD Porn in my mailman dad’s 1998 corolla. It has no rims but my wife loves it so much we had ass sex in the back seat last nite with pancit coming out of her bunghole. I got crazy mad and licked it up then spanked her with the chinellas! Can you also tell my son to move out of the house because he’s 32 and still filming car shows for a living making no money.

JT (Who am I?)

It is unfortunate that HD DVD is losing because I have a standalone player and only hope that Toshiba will come up with some kind of incentive for those people who brought their players. I will say this… I was really hoping that HD Dvd won the war, as many of you have already said its not official yet and it is not over until the fat lady sings like the saying goes…

Further to this, give it six months, and there will be another new format that everyone will get all hot up about and the wars will continue. I might have to bite the bullet and get a Blu-Ray Player or PS3 but shit I am going to hold on and see what happens.

Really, people still care about this? Physical media = Fail.

BTW, will BR be able to handle 4320? Anyone know?

wraith808 (Who am I?)

Apparently it’s *not* official. Geez people, how hard is it to understand that if it *didn’t* come from Toshiba, it’s not official?

Max Worton (Who am I?)

I do hope Blue Ray comes through like VHS years ago did. Maybe this will stop piracy as people will find recording a 60GB disc takes hours and the disk cost is high.

The link to NKH website changed daily, better get a fix url to the news.

Effrum

Shocking - the better disc one. Sony invented the compact disc, PS3 plays bluerays - blueray discs are bigger, blueray is an awesome word, HDDVD had too many D’s, fuck it - where are my eight-tracks?

The war isn’t really over…HD-DVD is just a casualty. Digital downloads and Blu-Ray will be competing for consumer business of the future. See http://www.inlethd.com/blog for more discussion.

The Blu-devil (Who am I?)

Unfortunately, Toshiba just can’t let it go - Muppets, the lot of them. They just can’t lose gracefully. Toshiba’s losing all credibility now, it’s sad. You can get more details from here: http://blu-devil.com/news/toshiba-hd-dvd-is-dead-deal-with-it/.
