The T8100 convertible tablet notebook from Korean-based “Ripple” is causing a minor stir today (a ripple, if you will) for its good looks. Sure, I guess it looks nice.
However, I don’t quite see what all the hoopla is about because truth be told, I’m a weight man. I feel that if a notebook is light enough, it’ll naturally look pretty good. This tablet looks good but it’s 4.6 pounds.
Not super heavy, sure, but for a notebook with a 12.1-inch screen and only 1GB of RAM on board to slowly poke its way around Vista, I wouldn’t spend my moderately hard-earned money on it. Plus, the whole only-available-in-Korea thing might put an end to this already non-existent decision.
My personal jerk-ass feelings aside, the tablet’s got a 45-nanometer Intel Penryn T8100 Core2Duo processor running at 2.1GHz, 120GB hard drive, DVD burner, 12.1-inch touchscreen (1280×800) with pen-based input, built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam, optional 3.5G wireless, and Vista.
