GDC is underway in San Francisco and the physical format war is dead. So what do the two have to do with one another? Well, it appears Microsoft might make an announcement this week at GDC about a partnership with Netflix. Microsoft definitely played their cards right by not including an internal HD DVD drive and downloadable content appears to be the next big thing. Microsoft has been known to drop a few bombs at GDC in years past, but I’m not sure how likely this rumor is going to materialize. A developers conference hardly seems fitting to announce a content deal.
Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan, had this to say about a possible deal.
“A partnership with Netflix gives Microsoft a partner that already streams movies to over 7 million subscribers through their PCs, and encourages these subscribers to sign up for the Xbox Live service in order to stream movies to their TVs.”
Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey was quoted earlier as saying,
“Netflix intends to be in a lot of boxes that get into the TV, whether its game systems or set-top boxes or next-gen DVD players. We want to be in a 100 devices to get the Internet to the TV.”
It could happen. I’d probably sign up for Netflix again if this happens. What about you guys?

Yeah, I haven’t had a monthly subscription to netflix in about 1.5 years. I just picked up an XBOX Elite a few months ago and I would definently re-subscribe to netflix if they team up. I’d pay $15 a month for unlimited viewing on the XBOX360.
I already pay for both Live and Netflix services..this is a no brainer for me!
Please let this rumor be true!!
Now if only Netflix would start working on that hideous lineup of b-movies that they offer for streaming…
I hope they work out a deal with Sony to go with the PS3! As I’m too cheap to pay the cable company another $80/month for a second HD cabale cable box for my “Man Town” where the PS3 and 40″ HD TV live. If I could get my Netflix (which I love again since the Blue Ray announcement) over the PS3 directly, then I could disconnect the massive comingling of wires that I have to connect the TV to the computer.
I would definitely get netflix again if I could get it over my 360. =)
I signed up for Netflix when they annonced they would have unlimited viewing of their online TV shows and films. So for less than $9 bucks a month I watched two seasons of Heroes and both Office series and Dexter, etc. They also have a lot of whole season from classic show. They are improving their movie offerings, but they thrive on all the TV shows they have online.
I’d love it if I was able to watch Netflix films on my TV. But maybe I’m already able to do that. I having figured out how to hook up WMC to my Xbox 360. I have Vista.
i feed on a steady diet of high def through my xbox’s hd dvd add on and live’s marketplace. if xbox live teamed up with netflix, i will never need to invest in blu-ray, which means a lot more money in my pocket.
it is true but just know that you can’t watch every movie on the xbox it’s only the watch instantly movies and tv shows that aren’t the best ones
