Microsoft turning to open software?

It’s not Linux, or even Open Source, really, but it’s something. Microsoft, starting this week, is going to be more open with its programming to ensure greater interoperability and to make for a more portable solution for your data.

This is a big reversal for Redmond, as Microsoft is known for its closed nature when it comes to its software.

It’s a bold step, and definitely one in the right direction.

  • Visa flopped, quick throw a press-release at it so nobody notices!

That’s how I sum this up.

When Balmer is gone I’ll start considering anything that Microsoft says as being worth the time it took off my life to read it. How that guy still has a job is beyond me. The company is profitably in spite of him, not because of him.

  • Oh, I certainly hope they don’t really go through with this. Reverse engineering contorted file formats to get your software to read them is so much fun, after all.
