Future ‘RockStar’ games to be exclusively on PS3?

According to a recent article in Play Magazine, your favorite Grand Theft Auto developer might be going PS3-only from here on out. That seems downright silly, but there’s a quote from an article about GTA IV that goes a little something like this…
“The game is both PS3 and 360, but Rockstar has suggested that all further game development is going to be PS3 exclusive.”
Nerdly consensus around the web has been that this might be a case of Sony throwing a bunch of money at RockStar and/or its parent company Take 2 Interactive in exchange for an exclusivity agreement, perhaps just for the GTA series or maybe for other titles as well.
I’d submit that RockStar shouldn’t leave all that Xbox 360, Wii, and even PC money on the table but there’s no telling how much this agreement might be worth.
Rumor: Rockstar going PS3 exclusive after GTA IV [MaxConsole] via SlashGear

I think Rockstar see how big the next game will have to be and only the PS3 will be be able to cater for it, buy buy 360.
LOL.
“buy buy”
I haven’t seen the original article but it would depend upon how it is worded. If it is exactly as it appears above, then they could mean that only future development on GTA IV (i.e. addons) would be PS3 only.
It would be great for me if all Rockstar games went PS3 exclusive but from a business point of view, it is doubtful.
why would it be great for you if all Rockstar games went PS3 exclusive ???
Well for one, they’d spend more time working on one version than 2.
Good to see a developer moving forward in the REAL Next-Gen gaming zone.
I remember a while back reading about how RockStar was having trouble squeezing GTA IV into the 360, so it wouldn’t surprise me.
They also had problems with the memory of the ps3, so whats your point. All the videos are being shown for the 360 so clearly rockstars thinks it runs better than the ps3.
lolol sony is a legend! pulled a fast move!
Sony has always been smarter than Microsoft or Nintendo so this is a great thing to do all other GTA again PS3 only sweet can’t wait.
Wow brah they must be using the dual lasers on the PS3..I hear GT IV on xbox is gonna be on like 5 DVD’s!!! Weaksause brah!!!!
you guys watch out 360fanboys are going to attack… lmao…
am happy that rockstar is going exclusive..good for them tho..
too many exclusive circling the ps3, mayn sucks being a 360 owner…
Ah, good. More games that I won’t want to play on the PS3.
I think that Rockstar going exclusive is cool cuz PS is where GTA started
Makes no sense. And if I was a share holder of Rockstar I would be asking some serious questions. It would reduce their earnings potential and may even be a good excuse to sell out to EA. At least this would ensure future games were multi-platform and thus make more money.
As for technical limitations of the xbox, I don’t believe that for one moment.
o.m. - uh sorry no, GTA started on this funny little thing us old folks call a “Personal Computer”. GTA III was a PS game first as far as I know, but it was the THIRD GTA.
And frankly, I love RockStar and GTA, but if they didn’t target the 360 with this sort of game, someone else would. It’s a rich market out there right now, with a ton of great games out or coming out for the 360. I’m perfectly happy with it.
Seems pretty stupid to ignore an entire market of millions of gamers out there though. I don’t think ANY company can afford to be a platform bigot at this point - but they need to push the console companies to start working toward some sort of hardware standards though.
GTA III was the first for Playstation 2 but all the prior games made an appearance on the original Playstaiton…
To clear up any misunderstanding.
As D Said, GTA Started on the PC, so its an irrelevant comment to make about it going back to where it started or where they have previously made an appearance, when comparing the XBOX or PS3 as the preferred medium. All that matters is whats best for the game as a whole.
Its rather short sighted to claim that this move would be good for the series, it might be marginally better for the next game with increased development time on one platform instead of three but it WOULD hurt sales and revenue overall, as less people would have the means to play or reason to play it. Thus you’ll end up with a smaller series and subsequently smaller budget on the next title.
It should also be noted when comparing developing a game for three platforms instead of 1, its much easier to do than three separate titles, which means your manpower is earning more for your company per hour, meaning you can hire more staff and still concentrate as much dev time on each individual title.
I personally wouldn’t pick it up, I don’t use consoles, if its on the PC I will buy it, if not they don’t get my dollar.
But meh what do I care, the more developers that move off my platform the more sales I can see short term on my own indie projects :).
