Quad RAMage! Metaram’s chips quadruple your server’s RAM capacity

quaddamage.jpgI’m a little suspicious of this technology, but if it works then it’s certainly cool. Metaram’s new MetaSDRAM chipset sits between the RAM and the controller and acts as a go-between for additional RAM (as far as I can tell). I get the feeling this is a great idea for big servers like company databases but not necessarily for high-performance ones, since memory bandwidth is not increased and may in fact be limited more by this chipset. Still, if your server is choking on holding too much data in memory, this is probably a cool thing to have.

  • This sounds cool if that in fact is what it is. Soon we may see RAM Addons instead of more RAM slots or higher RAM sticks. Maybe a cheap inbetween for an extra 256mb – 512mb of RAM or something.
