Samsung U940 is now the Glyde: Note the “y”
by Nicholas Deleon on February 26, 2008

That Samsung U940 that Hickey mentioned the other day has changed its name. Once known as the Q-Ball, it’s now called the Glyde. The weird thing about that name is that “glide” is usually spelled with an “i” rather than a y, so someone at Samsung must have been doing DMT.

The Glyde is still on track for a late March release—Spring Break, you can find me in the Lower East Side complaining about things with Ha—and is still the same phone as we first described. That is, separate QWERTY keyboard (like nearly every phone these days) and 7 Train-friendly slide action.

Let the debate begin… Voyager or Glyde? I’m guessing the Glyde will be the Voyager’s kid brother. Voyager is all the “tough kids” playing tackle football and the Glyde is the younger lads messin with NERF.

Don’t ask me where the hell that reference came from… I mean cmon, it’s flippin 3:30AM and I’m running out of coffee.

  • Nice NERF reference but I’d say the Voyager is like Super Mario Brothers 3 and the Glyde is like Super Mario World… it came out the next year but it still sucked a lot more.

But… I’ll wait until the reviews come out to pass judgement (too late for that?)

  • I’m in a interesting position. My contract is up. Stay with Verizon go with the Glyde /Venus or upcoming LG9700. Or go with AT&T and go with the VU. Half my family AT&T half the family Verizon.

Im going to decide based on several different criteria. Price/comfortability/quality of Photos.

  • This gotta be one of the best phones ever released by samsung, can’t wait…
