So I just called the SoHo and 5th Ave. Apple stores here in Manhattan and both stores told me the new MBPs are not in stock and they don’t know when they’ll be receiving them. That pisses me off because I’ve been waiting to upgrade from my MB.
Apple, don’t say things are available in stores when they’re not. Filthy liars.
Update: The West 14th location has them in stock. All is right in the world. How does Apple’s flagship store in NYC not have them? -PH

The same thing happened to me when they upgraded the iPhone to 16 gigs a few weeks ago. I only had another 2 days to return my 8 gig iPhone based on the return policy. I called to make sure that they had the 16 gig models in the store so I wouldn’t miss my window for exchange and they told me that they didn’t have them and they weren’t sure when they would arrive. I called back a few hours later and they said they DID have them. Idiots.
Apple is so scared of their precious information leaking before they can control it that they don’t even keep their own people sufficiently informed. I agree, they shouldn’t make erroneous claims in their press releases if they’re not going to deliver the product.
My local Apple store had several of the new MBPs. None were available out of the box to look at, but if I wanted to buy one, I could have.

Wow – life must be really tough if you have to wait a whoooole extra day before you can put down 2k at a drop of a hat whenver a new machine gets introduced. When I am volunteering at the soup kitchen tonight I’ll ladle a bowl just for you.
I called Steve Jobs and he said he had a couple, but to hold off because he was going to drop the price soon
He also mentioned he thinks Apply FanBoyz are total dorks, but is really happy they keep on buying his overpriced shit when ever he releases anything new
In Seattle, I called the Bellevue Square store, and the nice lady said that while they hadn’t arrived yet, they’re expecting the UPS or whatever guy any moment.
Southcenter said the same thing.
Alderwood Mall has all of them except the 17-inch in stock, ready to go.
And the U-Villiage store has the white MacBooks but not the black ones or the Pros.
