Edge magazine makes a bold claim with its article “Is Xbox 360 Past Its Peak?” Mary, Mary quite contrary. In just over 3,000 words, the magazine explains why Microsoft’s console may have already reached its zenith, with the only direction it can go from here on out being down. It’s sorta like a message board post entitled “The 360 is fairies,” but one backed with research and facts.
It’s a pretty decent article, one certainly worth the few minutes it takes to read. Some of the major points:
• Microsoft can no longer afford to simply throw money at Xbox and hope for the best. Reason being, the Xbox division represents 18.25 percent of Microsoft’s overall business. Xbox is no longer a toy or experiment.
• Microsoft’s dependence on Halo is alarming. (Neither Sony nor Nintendo depend on one IP to the same extent.) The game sells systems like nothing else. What happens if nothing else shows up?
• Xbox Live Arcade, so far, is more about nostalgia than bringing in casual gamers.
• The Red Ring of Death and all that entails
And so on. Basically, it’s a piece urging everyone to be cautious as it relates to calling the 360 a runaway success or the clear winner of this generation.

I read the article and is all true, this one is great also. From now on Xbox 360 will be losing money for Microsoft since Halo is no more well Halo Wars won’t sell at all is gonna be a Real Time Strategy base game. All they got now is Epic Game Gears of War 2. PLAYSTATION 3 is just beginning is gonna make the Xbox 360 obsolete.
na i think that xbox 360 is a bom console better then play station 3
Now that blu-ray has won the format war, the PS3 is going to be seeing a lot more action, given that it’s the best blu-ray player on the market. I’ll be very tempted to buy one after FFXII comes out, and it’ll be extremely hard to hold back once Atlus finally switches to producing for it (which I’m assuming they will, since 360 user base is lacking in Japan). But for now, I’m getting enough gaming out of my 360 and PS2.
This seems highly doubtful. The Xbox 360 has a great line up of games, and lower prices than the PS3. There is no chance the Xbox 360 has peeked. Sure, Halo is a huge seller for the console, but did anyone forget Gears of War 2? That might even sell more consoles than Halo 3 did. And what about Fable 2? GTA IV? If I am wrong may God strike me down.
Sony won the Blue Ray war, but MS won the gaming war. PS3 Blue Ray reader is slow. Devils may Cry installs a program (or something) into PS3 hard drive so it could run at its peek. I don’t know what you guys are talking about. U guys need to get your facts right. no one can predicted the future. as for now MS is the winner. only time will tell what happens later. besides by the time PS3 picks up, the new Gen systems will come out.

They are good it buying there way out, or should I say in.
I read the article and it was a fairly balanced good article. However, with regards to the headline and the article contents, it is not at all conclusive with regards to the xbox 360 peaking.
It does point out a few good issues which Microsoft need to focus on to make this a sucessful year. Xbox live, proper marketing of xbox live arcade games, more varied games to reach a wider audience, more exclusives, and a reliable machine.
Im sick and tired of reading all these articles that try to bash on the 360.
if ps3 was so great no one would need to write these stupid articles trying to prove so. these are all either marketing gimmicks to get more people to buy the ps3, or ps3 fanboys writing these articles hating on the 360.
Sony is desperate to sell ps3 consoles, every time a hit game comes out on both consoles the 360 version outsells by a huge amount, you think gaming companies want to make games for a console that doesn’t sell? The reason why ps3 is selling right now is because people want a bluray player, and do you really think people are gonna spend $ on just a bluray player that takes forever to load or buy a ps3 which has the better bluray player, hmmmm let me think!!! I have a ps2 and love it but the ps3 just has no games, I know great games are gonna come out for it but the same goes with the 360. Just face it, like I said if the Ps3 was so great all these articles would not be necessary. say all you want about my opinion, i don’t care, i have heard it all
I actualy agree with a lot of the comments said above me. Yes, the 360 sold a lot of consoles based on Halo but that can be said for a lot of game consoles. Personly I’m going to buy a Wii almost strictly for Super Smash Bros. I’m not biased at all since I love Sony and Microsoft almost equaly. But I am getting tired of the “fanboism” on either side – I have noticed it a lot more on the Sony front. My thoughts on the coming gaming quater sales is that the PS3 will sell a lot more consoles and slightly catch up to the 360 but the 360 will still have out sold the PS3 in overall sales since it has been out. The people that want a 360 already have it and will continue to purchase new games. Like it was mentioned above me – when games come out on multiplatform, the 360 has consistently outsold the PS3 in that particular video game. I think that will stand true even the PS3 starts going up in sales. I don’t think we will see a significt console sale for the 360 until gears of war 2 comes out. Video games like that is what gets people to buy consoles (gamers atleast ).
Hell I’m not going to buy a PS3 Until Finaly Fantasy 13 comes out, even though theres significt titles like heavenly sword, resistance fall of man, and well shit i can’t even think of a third one lol.
So my final thought is that the PS3 will catch up in console sales because of that fact that everyone that wants a 360 has one BUT microsoft will continue to out sell Sony in the the actual game market.
i agree, im gonna buy the ps3 when it has more games, specially when ff13 comes out, but notice not all but alot of ps3 fanboys refuse to buy the 360 because of their ignorance. obviously a lot of them are just childish with ” mine is better than yours” hahahha grow up its just a game console. i play games cause i enjoy them, i will probably not buy a wii because thats not my style of game, that does not mean that the wii sucks, But for someone to say that the 360 sucks…..well obviously there is something wrong with them. yes the 360 can have the ring of death but i have not experienced it yet , and if it does happen its because i use my 360 everyday. Im sure both console have its ups and downs, but it gets really annoying reading these articles that just bash the 360. so to all you die hard ps3 fans stick to your console, play your games and shut up, i will eventually have both and have double the fun
Haha, aww. The Xbox boys are sad :(
Getting tired of everybody predicting a console’s failure. First, it was that the 360 was underpowered vs. the PS3, which is still an arguable point anyway. But even if it is true, the PS2 was woefully weak vs the original Xbox, but it dominated regardless. Now, after the 360 had an amazing game line-up for 2007, it supposedly doesn’t have anything but Gears of War 2 for 2008. The fact is, all the consoles will likely have a number of great titles coming out this year we don’t yet know about, or we know very little about. Bioshock was a virtual unknown until shortly before release, yet how sweet it was! Just because the 360 doesn’t have another Halo FPS coming out this year doesn’t mean there aren’t any hopes left for the console. Developers still have a tremendous amount of untapped potential under the hood of the 360, as well as the PS3, so neither console has seen its peak of game performance and/or capabilities. And while I do expect to see an increase in PS3 sales due to the Blu Ray vs HD DVD situation now, game developers are still going to look at the bottom line profit of making and selling a game, including ease of development and attach rate of games to consoles, which the 360 does very well in, so don’t expect any type of quick abandonment of the 360 by developers during this console lifecycle. BTW, I don’t own a Wii or a PS3, just 2 360’s (one for me and another for my son), but I will likely get a PS3 eventually for the Blu Ray player, but at this point, there are no games for the PS3 that are really lighting my fire, but I know there will be some great games on the console eventually, so don’t start firing off all the great PS3 exclusives that are coming out this year–we all know about them already, it is just that none of the ones I have seen are system sellers for me personally. And quite frankly, there are few individual games good enough for me to justify a purchase of a console on that game alone, but Bioshock was probably good enough to do that for me if I had not already owned a 360. Anyway, I am optimistic about the industry as a whole this year, and am excited to see what developers will do on the 360 and PS3 both. In the end, I want to see both systems flourish, neither at the expense of the other and all the people who have jumped on board one or the other. Those are the ones left in the cold, and most people are not fanatical one way or another, they just want to have fun with their entertainment dollar.
