To experience the culture, one must be there to take it all in, walk the roads, taste the authenticity of great (or not so great) local foods, see the architecture, and pick up on the language(s).

Traveling to another place allows a person to experience the sights, sounds, smells, and the feel for how other people live. It allows a person to understand the pace of the environment and interact with locals.

These things cannot be experienced by viewing Flickr photos, reading people's blogs, and researching on Yelp or Google.

reading this while here in thailand is quite hilarious.

perhaps devin could include in his list of books to read (if he's not traveling, but at a thai restaurant perhaps?) would be the nonfiction book from bangkok titled:

"hello my big big honey!" (parts of it are online...)

Man. I really tried but could not see why this post was dubbed with "Unreasonable Stance". Either I really missed the sarcasm or it really wasn't there, I don't know. It almost pains me to agree with Devin, so I won't, but this is the most thought provoking piece you've written yet. Not for the content, but why exactly it's U S. Maybe if you had said "...you can just "Yahoo" or something, maybe, but not really. Good job. I think...?
