Duh. Casting Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark is the most inspired casting in superhero movie history. Stark is a billionaire playboy whose drinking problems have led to bankruptcy, business takeovers and homelessness. Downey is a multi-millionaire playboy whose drinking problems have resulted in arrests, bad publicity and the takeover of other people’s homes. He pretty much just has to play himself, if he was a genius who entered MIT at 15. Plus, using Black Sabbath in the trailer may be incredibly obvious, but it’s still cool.

In any event, the Marvel Spandex Brigade movie bar is pretty low if you’re not a mutant or Peter Parker. A blind drunk monkey with ADHD could probably poop out a script better than the Fantastic Four flicks. Favreau is presumably better than a blind, drunk monkey.
