If you’re like me, you love yourself some home theater setup, and Blu-ray is likely your next purchase, if you haven’t already bought a player. Samsung been playing both sides of the court and was set to release a duo HD-DVD/Blu-ray player, but now has wisely decided against it.
Samsung has always been a backer of Blu-ray, and the inclusion of HD-DVD in the now-cancelled BD-UP5500 Duo HD was a hedge, but now the future is Blu-ray for Samsung.
In an official statement, Samsung told us:
Samsung has always believed that Blu-ray was the format best-positioned to win based on studio support and the formats capabilities. Now that Blu-ray has been chosen as the next-generation format, the consumer can move forward with confidence and enjoy the experience that Blu-ray offers.
Samsung believes that a multi-format player like the current BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player (Duo) offers the best and only solution for consumers that want access to all available High-Definition (HD) titles in the short term. It remains a practical solution, but the window of opportunity is smaller than it was before. In light of recent announcements, Samsung will not introduce the BD-UP5500 Duo HD Player.
Very diplomatic, and also very telling. Now go forth, and buy!

BD-UP5000 has received the best award from “PC Magazine” as a best stuff in HDTV accessaries catagories in this May 2008 issue.
There are some unsolved defects in it.
However, this Duo player seems to go well in the market.
