What.cd’s Gazelle released into alpha: New features ahoy

OiNK pretender What.cd is getting closer to releasing Gazelle, its new “under-the-hood” code that’s set to replace the old TBSource. It was just released into alpha a few hours ago for VIP users; other user classes will have to wait a little while longer.

What.cd appears to be quite confident of Gazelle’s importance and success. The code adds several new features that, until now, have (in part) depended on external scripts. (Yes, I’m alluding to Greasemonkey and OiNKPlus.) If you’re even a casual BitTorrent user you’ll no doubt appreciate the improvements, which include built-into-what.cd artist profiles (above) and torrent grouping. Torrent grouping shows the many different file formats a particular album is available in—very handy if you’re in a hurry and just want to grab a V0 before heading off to do whatever it is you do all day.

Not gonna lie—I’m sorta looking forward to Gazelle. I’ve always felt more “loyal” to What.cd than Waffles.fm for whatever fanboy reason and the site’s been hyping it up like it’s the main event of WrestleMania. I don’t know, What.cd seems to know what it’s doing.

  • This is going to be an Invite Only site I’m assuming? Any word on how us non-”VIP” members can get our hands on an invite? :D

    • Yeah, it’s invite-only. It’s one of those “you have to know someone” deals. I’d give out invites here, but invites were recently reset and now I have none. See my other reply,

  • Get ready for the “invite-beggars” to flood your inbox, Nick.

p.s. Can I get an invite to either site?

    • What.cd recently reset invites so I have none to hand out. I think I’ve uploaded a grand total of 5 gigs since the site launched, so it’ll be a while before I get any more. Seeding is tough (like on OiNK) and being on TimeWarner doesn’t help. Still have my 2.xx ratio, though.

      -na (inside joke)

      • i’m not going to be one of those invite beggers (especially since i know you don’t have any) but could you by chance enlighten me as to how to go about getting on one of these sites?

  • beggars do suck. all i’m saying is that i dont have an invite yet. a j adon iz @ g M a-il…..com

  • a little intelligence, research, and conversations will get you into most invite only sites.

  • anyone to request invites publicly on here will be blacklisted from receiving them, trading invites in public is not allowed as stated in the rules.

  • I believe that they will be oink’s most successful successor. They cannot replace oink (primarily because their user base is less than 25% of oinks), but they’re doing a damn good job of establishing their own identity. I think they will become a “great” tracker, they just need to increase their user base!

  • Who Really Cares? After all it is a site that is invite only, most of us cant use the new features .

  • Insert blatant invite beg for What.cd / waffles.fm

    Thanks!

  • Yeah, beggars suck…
    That’s why I will **TRADE** a Demonoid invite for a whta.cd invite! Hehe…

    Thanks in advance!
