I was just looking for Wayne Bell, creator of the WWIV BBS system, and I found this list of 508 area code BBSes complete with notes from the original sysops. I was on the 614 area code myself, so I never visited these sites, but weren’t those the days, kids? Fidonet FTW.

  • Wow. Um. Nerdy.

But not much of the old old school. Mid 80’s, acoustic coupler modems, capable of 300baud on a good day, except I lived in a fucking trailer and we had party line phones so I’d get knocked off if I ever dared to try to dial in in the afternoons; and my parents wondered why I was up all night…. Not to mention, I never saw this 300baud. *griN*

  • Indeed, those were the days.. I used to have have an Apple IIe with a 110/300 baud modem. When I switched to PC’s, I switched to WWIV BBS Software – it had just been converted from Basic to Turbo Pascal. BBSes are still around..they’ve made the conversion to the internet a long time ago.
