Rumor: 60GB Xbox 360s with Blu-ray on the way?

Trusted Reviews has it on good authority that Microsoft will be releasing new versions of the Xbox 360 this year with 60GB HDDs instead of the current 20GB, and that these new super-Xboxen might also contain Blu-ray drives instead of standard DVD drives.
This only makes sense, as Microsoft has discontinued support for HD DVD and including a Blu-ray drive instead of as an add-on only increases the Xbox’s value, as well as competes more readily against the PS3.
Microsoft is also likely looking at adding an external Blu-ray drive for legacy 360 players, like yours truly. The other good news is that the current crop of HDMI-sporting Xbox 360 Premiums would see a big price drop, something we’ve heard hinted in the last week anyway.

it only makes sense from a business standpoint in trying to usurp the hand that sony has unexpectedly been dealt

who cares. I buy a gaming system for games not movies even though I do like the download service of movies on the 360. I have a DVD player for movies. I would never play movies on a 360 or PS3. IMO my laser is only going to be used for countless hours of gaming not watching only he handful of movies I care about this year. Downloading will eventually be the future of movies. Downloading is already the future of music just Google it and read the 1000’s of articles. CD companies are going bankrupt but looking and putting more money into the download system which is great. Usually if I see a movie once it is highly unlikely that will need a copy of the movie to view it over and over and over.

Its all about price, I think. I want a bluray player, dont really care about a PS3 but as of right now, I plan on buying a PS3 for bluray.
if there is a bluray addon for the 360 that is around $200 bucks, Id buy that instead

It’s funny how MS helped to kill the HD DVD. If MS would have included a built in HD DVD with the Xbox360, Sony BluRay would be in trouble. HD DVD would have the edge over BluRay since it was introduced first. Fact is that’s not the case. MS is “secretly” trying to kill the PS3 if it builds a BluRay player either as an external addon or internal. Now that the HD player has been resolved, the PS3 should drop in price when other companies starts to mass produce the BluRay player. There’s no more reason for Sony to keep the price of the PS3 at $500 bucks when the BluRay will be around $100 to $150. Can’t wait to purchase either a Xbox360 or PS3 for under $200!
