I think its because of the added external speaker and volume knob. These would not be accesable from the outside if you are using this case.

i have more of a question....this product says its NOT compatible with the iTouch 2gen, but i have looked at the specs on sizes and they seem to be similar. Why is it not compatible, i REALLY want this case if i'm going to be spending lots of money on an item to ruin it while working. can anyone explain? thanks :)

I've used a similar case with my iPod classic (and I'll be getting this case for my touch when it arrives). This type of case does add significant bulk but it's not meant for the person who carried their iPod in its own padded case in their padded laptop bag.

I use the current case I have w/ my messenger bag - clip it to the strap and go. The clip is made w/ a C curve in the end so it grips the strap well - it's never fallen off my bag - but I'm confident if it does the iPod will be fine. I also don't have to worry about rain or anything else. My iPod generally lives in my messenger bag so it's nice to have the extra protection at all times.

If you don't need the waterproof feature Otterbox makes a slimmer, lighter, cheaper case as well called the Defender.

I just got the defender case for the Ipod classic 80g and sent it back. It does protect it perfectly, but the screan part is so blurry it hurt my eyes to look at it for a while. I have some games that I like to play and it was just impossible after 5 minutes of watching it-And I have 20/20 vision. Even searching through the "cover flow" to look for an album. Just my opinion. :)
