AT&T unleashes Wi-Fi BB Pearl

blackberry-pearl-crimson-l.gif

I find that AT&T’s newest BlackBerry to be quite odd. Maybe I’m crazy, but I thought AT&T loved them some GPS while T-Mobile loved them some Wi-Fi. In any case, AT&T has added the BB Pearl 8120 for about $200 with the usual 2-year contract. It’s the latest and greatest Pearl (2-megapixel camera w/ video) so get ready for some hot 802.11g action, ladies.

I was on the plane yesterday and noticed a sarariman sitting next to me with a Pearl. I don’t get it. Why would anyone in business want a QWERTY-less BB? I know it’s small and all that jazz, but anyone want to fill me in?

*The old Pearl is pictured above.

If you can’t type just as fast with the pearl as with any of the others, I guess you haven’t sent enough sms messages as I have. Sad? Who’s to say? I’m not the one complaining about a keyboard.

I’ve been using a Pearl as my work BB for over a year now and find I can type faster than my colleagues on their full-QWERTY models. I bang out some emails, I tell ya. :)

I use the pearl because I don’t want to look like a douche with the belt clip nor a pervert with an unsightly bulge in my pocket. The keyboard is just as fast as a full QWERTY after a few weeks anyway.

I hack it out with MultiTap. Been doing it since the first Pearl came out. I tried the suretype/smarttype whatever on the 7100 and never got very far…
