Setanta Sports no longer offered on ITVN IPTV service: Trouble ahead?

These are tough times for IPTV service ITVN. The subscription-based service, which offered hundreds of average to above average quality channels (like 600K streams… think really good Internet streaming) to its subscribers, will no longer be offering Setanta Sports starting next month. Setanta Sports, an Irish corp, broadcasts “other” sports like soccer and rugby here in the U.S. Setanta sent out e-mails to its ITVN subscribers in recent days saying that ITVN has “ceased to trade.”
In other words, if you subscribed to Setanta via ITVN, you’d better find another way to watch within the next month or your weekends spent watching C. Ronaldo and Rooney are over. (Easiest way would be to subscribe to Setanta Broadband, $15 per month, Windows or Mac.)
ITVN hasn’t had the best of luck this past year. Last autumn, users had flooded message boards complaining of server problems during the big Liverpool-ManU game. Customer service was said to be, at best, so-so, too.
Things will probably hot up once the end of the month rolls around and subscribers start getting bills in the mail.

Guessed ITVN were in trouble when they billed my credit card twice last month and then discovered their phones were disconnected! I cancelled my Setanta service by email (help@itvn.com) but will be watching that credit card closely!

Same thing here - double charged in March!!!! AH! And the phone disconnected - so frustrating. Credit Card Company is contesting the charges for us.

Interesting!
I never received any e-mail from Setanta alerting me to the demise of Setanta on ITVN.
I do see however 2 charges on this months credit card statement for ITVN and
seeing as I always paid a month in advance I should get 3 X $ 14.95 back!!!!
What a shame as I enjoyed the service and I am unable to get Sattelite or ATT Uverse and Comcast programming sux so now its crappy 2 inch screen on the Laptop.
What a bummer!

I had the same problem. ITVN billed my account twice in March, and I have so far sent out three emails to cancel my subscription without any response.

I sent e-mails to help@itvn.com and never got a response so I called their 1866 number and was informed that it is no longer in service…..! They hit the customers accounts twice and ran????
We should report them to the BBB of LA and San Diego

Hi Fionan,
If I won’t hear from them in two days (i.e. by this Friday), I will definitely report them. I haven’t checked with my bank yet, but I’m sure if we can ask the bank to stop processing any further payment for ITVN. Technically, as you suggested, they have charged us two months in advance by now.
Cheers,
Victor

Charged twice this month too. Wondering what to do about this and where we all stand legally. I’d imagine ceasing trading would be termination of contract, but I’m no lawyer. Any advice would be appreciated

I was charged twice. I’m thinking of reporting my credit card stolen and have a new # issued so they wont charge it again. They wont answer my emails either.

I filed an investigation request with my bank, and it has taken the second transaction off today. I don’t know if it was purely a result of my bank’s investigation, or if ITVN has initiated the crediting.
I am still concerned about the absence of any response from ITVN about my request for account cancellation. I asked them specifically to terminate their service on April 1, 2008. I suppose I will know if they would really do it by April 2, 2008. If not, I will probably try to file a complaint with the BBB, and to see if I can ask my bank to stop payment for any further transaction with ITVN.
If this silence on the part of ITVN continues, which might hamper any further pursuit of our right as customers, we ought to find a way stand together for the possibility of legal action.

Charged three times last month, and received no response when I e-mailed ITVN. Charged twice this month, a week after I had requested cancellation of my subscription. My credit card company has opened investigations into the ‘unauthorized charges’ on my card, but I think my best move might be to report the charges as ‘fradulent’ and request a new card. In my experience reporting the charges as ‘fradulent’ usually gets them removed immediately (as opposed to 6-8 weeks, or never, when investigated as ‘unauthorized charges’).

Same here. I had two charges on my credit card statement last month and sent an email to help@itvn.com to give them a chance to reply. No such luck! I looked to see if the second charge was taken off this months statement… it wasn’t and, again, I had two charges to my card. I sent another email to ITVN today and sent a CC to the BBB. I also filed a complaint through the BBB’s website.
If there is no reply, we should find a way to stand together and get them to take responsibility.

I was also charged four times by ITVN, after I canceled my subscription. I tried calling every phone sumber I could find for ITVN, and they’re disconnected! I tried calling Setanta directly and they said it wasn’t their problem. The best I’ve got going know is a dispute opened on all four charged with my credit card company.

I too have this problem. AND I found out from my credit card company (and confirmed through research on the net) that even if I get a new credit card with a new number, the preauthorized payments will follow me to the new card, and the credit card company will not cancel the preauthorized payments!! What can I do?? I’m disputing the charges but I dont want to have to do this every month..

There is another forum discussing this issue. I will do more research with my bank this week. Let’s stick together and get this problem solved.

My Bank (of America) has credited me the 2 ITVN charges for this month and one for last month while they research the matter. I volunteered to fax them copies of the cancellation emails I sent ITVN, the mail from Setanta and even this Blog as evidence. The phone #, attached to the credit card debit, is no longer in service so they did not need much persuading. Just report this to your bank. ITVN is not going to fix it for you. Don’t let them get away with it.

I have reported them to the BBB in Southern California who told me there are 13 other unanswered complaints against the company. The BBB gave me the number for the Attorney General.

Yup…same here..not only on March 2nd, but again twice on Apr. 2nd.
I sent them an email March 11th to tell them about the double billing and at the same time, requested to cancel my sub, but they STILL double charged me again this month.
I then called my VISA customer service today and they agreed to dispute the charges. ie. I won’t have to pay for 3 of the 4. Since I cancelled on March 11th, I’m only obligated to pay one of those 2 charges on March 2nd.
Just make sure you have a copy of the email you sent when you requested cancellation of your sub.
It usually takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks to reverse the charges on your statement but you won’t be charged any interest. Also, the CSR told me to keep watching my statement for a few months.
Call you credit card company people before these a-holes start thinking they can mess with us!

If they have charged your credit card twice for the same month and they go out of business they can be held CRIMIANLY RESPONSABLE for SCHEME TO DEFRAUD a FELONY . and sent to prison for this. make sure that you file a local police report about the “unauthorized charges” on your credit card
