vista Apparently tomorrow’s the big day. The first service pack for Windows Vista will be available for manual download on the Windows Update and Microsoft Downloads sites.

It’ll also be pushed out as an automatic update on April 18th for those users who can stand another month of random crashes, slow system performance, and the inability to reliably connect to secure networks.

I’ll most surely have it downloaded and installed tomorrow and will report back to the group after some initial testing.

Vista Service Pack One Almost Here [Slashdot]

  • Wow! I’ve had vista for 5 months and never had a single OS crash! Or a problem connecting to my secure network or even slow performance! You know, I get really weary of mac-happy bloggers ripping on vista all the time – when, in my experience, have never had a problem with it.

My roommate’s macbook crashed three times the first week he had it – so we must be true-American anomalies!

    • I don’t currently use a Mac, for the record, and I’d love it if I didn’t have anything Vista-related to complain about. I’m not for or against OS X or any operating system in one way or the other. I’m just in favor of the operating system that I use working correctly.

So I don’t just rip on Vista for fun. I actually use a Vista PC all day long and the operating system definitely has stability and performance issues. Every time I write something about Vista needing improvement, a little tiny piece of me dies inside because I know it means that I probably need improvement in my decision-making faculties.

There are indeed some people out there who haven’t experienced many (or any) problems with Vista but I think you’ll find more people who have. Here’s to hoping the service pack addresses many of these issues.

  • Used Vista since Nov 2006 RTM the only driver I didn’t have but needed was for my Nvidia 8800 GTX.

It works…I have used (daily) business edition and Home edition on four computers no issues…

Get over it, it’s works for many people..

  • @ grandpa

same here. not a single crash in over 6 months.

  • SICK OF STUPIDITY

in my opinion, most of the people who complain about crashes and whatever problems they see in Vista have no experience with PC management (hardware and software)
ive got vista instaled since october..not even 1major problem detected, of course some minor issues here and there, but even without sp1 i have to say its a damngood os and stable also

i keep hearing dumb ppl saying “oh noes vista eats all my ram vista sucks” FFS google about ram management in vista and stop spreading this crap

sp1 adds useful things such as 4gb recognition, faster copy time and many other…
