Comcast testing technology to watch you watch it watching you
by Matt Hickey on March 18, 2008

130 126big brother is watching you posters

Not to frighten everyone, but word is Comcast is going to put cameras on its set-top cable boxes to know who in your house is watching what.

It’s on the surface not much of a Big Brother fright but more of a personalization tool. The idea is that the camera would be attached to software that can detect who’s in the room, and can then load up personalized content for that person or those people.

While we like the concept, it’s something of a slipper slope to be sure. I’m not sure in Americans are ready for this kind of technology in their living rooms.

Everybody panic.

  • I for one - am not ready to let some filthy slime-ball corporation(s) monitor my habits within my own living room -WTF!! Total outright intrusiveness, if you do not realize this outright invasion of privacy, well than, enjoy having your actions recorded, documented, analyzed, and sold… While the writer of this seems to support this type of technology/Intrusiveness, he/she seems to be oblivious to the fact that this type of CCTV technology will eventually become a means of controlling your daily habits to extents unimaginable to the average person, at this point in reality… The moment is now, free your mind, before you run out of time…

  • this is the stupidest thing I ever heard… really.
