So how are things? Everything go okay with the service pack installation? I’ve certainly been critical of Vista in the past but I’m happy to admit that my upgrade went through without a hitch.
The fan on my notebook seems to have settled down a bit and programs seem to be opening more quickly, so I’m happier than I was before SP1.
The general consensus from around the web seems to be a mixed bag. On the Windows Vista Team Blog, there are some comments to the effect that certain NVIDIA drivers have been mangled and overall system speed has gone down instead of up. Some people are getting blue screens throughout the update process, too. Did anyone here have any major problems?

I have been using Vista for over a year now and I have had a mixed bag of performance and pausing type experiences to report. I installed SP1 a few days ago and I must admit that although I couldn’t get the automatic update and had to download the whole thing, my machine did a few critical dumps through the update and the entire process took over 2 hours, my machine does seem more responsive. The whole aero thing seems to be much slicker and wireless network thingy, which used to drive me a bit mad, is working like a dream. In all, pretty satisfied at this moment in time. DELL XPS M1210
SP1 installed just fine for me, and seemed to have fixed a few things – a couple of driver bugs that I was never able to get rid of seemed to have been fixed, and my hard-drive no longer spins continuously (which I think was attributed to the Finder indexing) so things are definitely a little quicker. Haven’t really played around to see what else is better, but so far I’d say it was an easy and worthwhile update.
No problems here, although I never have had any problems with Vista. I’m not sure if it sped anything up, since I added more RAM to my computer the day after I installed SP1…
I don’t know because my Dell E521 has one of the SigmaTel Drivers that are on the “problem list” so I cannot see SP1 in Windows Update yet. I have been running Vista RTM for over a year without any problems at all so I am not in too big of a hurry for SP1 anyway – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it I guess!
My upgrade went fantastically! Installed through Windows Update, and it went flawlessly. My NVIDIA drivers are working great, and I can finallt copy files without it taking forever!
Before the SP1, it tooks anywhere from 1-3 minutes for it to even start copying files when I tried, and after the install, It appeared to be an instantaneous process. There weas no delay i noticed, so i am ecstatic with it for now.
P.S.. My system is a Dell Inspiron 531, Vista premium, 2GB RAM, Dual core AMD 2X 4000
My Dell Latitude D630 has been working great! I do see quite a bit of speed improvement over the original release. My system experience score went up .2 points and things seem to be running better. So far so good.
Well, Vista64 blew chunks for my setup, but Vista 32 works like a charm. I will be installing the SP1 when I get home (hacking away on an XP SP2 machine now). If you happen to hear some rather unsavory screams coming from the NC area Saturday, blame me and V-SP1…
i installed it the other day and i’m pretty satisfied so far. I’m running it on an IBM R52 laptop and the one major difference is that the CD/DVD ROM is much quieter than before and the computer fan doesnt go crazy anymore.
I’ve been nervous about upgrading but after reading this I think I’m going to go ahead and do it! I have a XP desktop and a high performance Vista Laptop. I love both machines but to be honest I really like vista. It’s a great operating system. It looks amazing although it has some of it’s faults. My only compalint with vista is wireless network program. I’d have to restart my laptop all the time for it to find my wireless network. But according to a few of you that has been resolved. Has anybody seen improved battery life on their laptops?
I have had a computer, which came with Vista, and have absolutely nothing good to say about it. It is the worse system I have had since ME came out.
Both are a headache to work with and in my opinion vista was a waste of Time and money on the part of Microsoft. It had a mind of it’s own. If this is the best they can do, I will go with Apple next time.
