I can do amazing things on Linux I am making a very complicated website, which seems to require a lot of programs running at once, my computer has 500mb of ram and 1.6ghz Pentium 4 processor. I can run smoothly with about 3 databases running in the background, two web servers, firefox with nearly twenty open tabs, opera open with only one tab, about 10 text editors, 7 terminals and Quod Libet (my favorite music player) running and it all works so smoothly.

I've been using Linux as my desktop for a long time now, and exclusively for about 3 years, and the advancements it has made and still is making is just amazing. Compiz-Fusion is bringing a world of UI possibilities with very little footprint, and Screenlets is bringing a nice platform for widgets as well (although I wish it supported just html based widgets).

It is worth noting too that the performance of Linux on the desktop runs circles around XP and Vista on the same hardware. Fedora 8 Live CD ran faster on my latest notebook from the CD than Vista did installed on the HD!

If you've been considering trying Linux, but not sure if your ready to take the plunge, then just download the live CD of Fedora or Ubuntu and try it a few times on your desktop. I can assure you, you will not regret the day you make the switch.

Preaching to the converted.

Linux has saved me a huge amount of money with stupidly expensive Microsoft products.

Switched our hosting from a Windows box to a RedHat box. I can leave it months without having to touch it. The windows box is like a child, needed constant attention and work.

If you do any kind of serious programming Linux IS the way to go. For example, I used to use Net Beans for Java programming alot on Vista. What a headache of constant crashes and slowness. Install it on Ubuntu and wow! Amazingly stable and doesn't perform like a wounded badger.

On the fun side, just upgraded to 8.04. Not really fun as nearly everything works. Damn those Linux developers are good.

Unlike Vista SP1. It kills baby polar bears. Installed after 2 hours on my decent squad core 2gb (yeh, just enough to boot it) computer. Restart and oh, takes 20 seconds longer to load. Desktop has no Aero effects and it stuck on Windows 98 style. Couldn't fix it, spent a whole saturday googling and trying to fix it. IIn the end system restored. Screw you Bill.

Who said Windows is easier?
