This very exact same thing happened to my MBP 133.
And I have found the rule: When shut down the MAC for at least 1 hours, the problem will appear. Do NOT to restart. The problem will disappear just when pressing control+shift+eject to close the Screen once.
Maybe the bug of led light. Wish someone to fix it!

This exact same thing happened to my computer MBP. However, it has happened more than once. I noticed that the LEDs went out mostly when my computer got hot. I don't know if there is any correlation with these issues but I'm waiting in the Apple Store right now to see what the problem is. I do know however, the problem goes away whenever you restart the computer (at least for me).

It's only happened once so me so far. Shutting the lid and opening it seemed to reset the screen to normal.

As I am writing this my screen looks just like the one in you picture. This is the second time this has happened to me. Last time a restart did the trick. Hope it will work now, too...

add another macbook pro to the list. I have had the macbook about 6 months before it started happening. Now it's happening about once a day. I put it to sleep and when it wakes it's ok??

Very irritating! Is it software related?

I just had it happen to me today and stumbled across your site looking for a solution. I had to put it to sleep twice before it would work again for me.

Same here!!! I got mine from the 5th Ave in NY store late March, and I just opened my new Macbook Pro.

Today is the first day of my new MBP that is.

The same thing happened after having it woken up. I managed to take a snapshot of the screen with the stripes with my mobile phone. I put it on sleep mode and woken it up after a few seconds. Everything seemed to be ok. Don't ask how do I feel about it. On the very first day of my new MBP life. :(

Yes, in fact happened yesterday, just once, when waking from sleep (MBP Penryn). Random. Putting it right back to sleep and waking again righted things. I'm kind of like that, too.

I had this happen on a new Dell XPS M1330 right out of the box. The technician that came out said that it was pressure points on the screen during manufacturing and certain screens were damaged. Mine had exactly that pattern... like every other LED was out. Was not a good start for a brand new laptop!

I have a hard time believing that every other LED died simultaneously and it's not something else. Try restarting and zapping the PRAM.

Yes, I noticed the same thing one day when I was at SXSW with the new MBP. Only happened the one day and seems fine now. Needless to say I was not happy at the time.
