Usually we like to write posts that have some sort of certainty about them, “iPhones have multitouch!” or things of that nature. For this, we cannot, as the point of the article is the unknown nature of the iPhone in Canadia.
Everyone sort of assumed it would go to Rogers, as Rogers is Canadia’s only real nationwide GSM provider. But if that’s the case, it should have started selling by now.
Canadia is about to have a bandwidth auction much as we just did, and Niagra Networks Inc., a mysterious networking company, plans to bid on much of the spectrum that can be used for GSM. Both AT&T and T-Mobile are rumored to be partnered with Niagra, who’d likely start up a new GSM network.
That being said, all of this is a little problematic for a quick launch of the iPhone, so we still see Apple and Rogers trying to work something out for June.

What the fuck is Canadia?
April Fools is tommorow, BTW.
Canadia is the French country above the United States. They play hockey and like to beat each other up and don’t have full heads. Just two halfs that bob up and down as they speak. Think Terrence and Philip.
Yeah sure, CG is ALL about posting quality, foolproof stuff that has 100% true-ness to it. All those rumor postings don’t count I guess. And if I had a dime for every time I had to read, “take this with a grain of salt” or some variation of that statement then I’d be rich.
Sorry, but that’s pretty bad (if not sad). To spell Canada as Canadia seems to suggest that you’re pronouncing ‘Can-a-da’ as ‘Can-a-dee-a’.
Matt, you can make it up to me, one of CGs loyal Canadian lurkers, by sending me an iPhone. I should be able to make use of it sometime within the next 10 years.
No no no no no no no no no no no no No! It’s pronounced Cuh-nay-dee-a
See? Even you say “Canadian”–proof that it’s “Canadia”. It’s not “Americian”!
How ignorant.
Right, Rogers will never give into unlimited data, because then they’d have to offer that for all phones, and right now they’re making a pretty penny on charging about 6x more than they should for data.
I’m not holding my breath, besides I just bought an iPhone and unlocked it. So it doesn’t matter all that much whether it comes out now or later (to me).
This rumor is bogus. Niagara Networks failed to qualify for the auction. And even if Niagara or some other new entrant won a lot of GSM bandwidth, it would be a least 2 years before they could build out the infrastructure to offer GSM service. “Canadia” will have to wait until Rogers/Apple/Comwave come to terms.
You may want to reconsider posting rumors as news, especially when the source cannot even spell Canada.
Take a joke. Dewd.
