I beg to differ. You CAN pirate a book. I used a pirated Algebra book at school (Hey, it was 20% the original price, and it wasn't easily found here anyways).

Also, it is forbidden here to make photocopies of books (at 2 cents per page, some of us used to photocopy the part with exercises of the chapter, and read the rest of it at the library), sometimes even if the book says that it is OK to photocopy parts of it (like the last pages with formulas and or conversions). I am not saying that books will die (eye strain is the main reason) but book pirating exists in the realm of paper.

You cannot pirate a book - trading paperbacks is a huge part of being a reader. Look at websites like Bookmooch.com and others that offer the same services - they are very popular and no one is a "pirate". Books are not the same as music and movies - they are meant to be shared and publishers are not going to start suing readers like record companies do file sharers. As far as the net killing books - books have been around for how many years - they survived radio - they surviced TV - and they will survice the internet - no one wants to read a 600 page book in PDF format until the technilogy is much better than it is in the sad E-readers like the Kindle that are on the market today.
