I keep getting e-mails from GalleryPlayer, a company that sells hi-res artwork specifically for display on [plasma and LCD] HDTVs. (A starter pack costs $50.) The idea behind it is, instead of turning your TV off when not in use, you pop in an SD card filled with purdy pictures.
Does anyone do that?
My TV doesn’t have the appropriate inputs to use the service, but I don’t know if I would in the first place. Don’t you worry about the life of your display?
Just wonderin’.
Oh, and 2-1 to the ‘pool today. Though I’m rooting for Fenerbahçe to win it all. Always been an underdog guy.

Sounds like a waste of energy!
Total waste of energy, but I have seen it done many times, especially in the art world. They sell dvds with maybe 15 minutes of moving art (for instance the painting of a canvas in hi speed or even some really abstract stuff like an extreme closeup of water dripping) that loops when your tv is not in use. They usually sell for $20 a minute, but some are more depending on the ‘artist’. If you have money to spend on that stuff, you probably do not care so much about energy costs.
Sounds like you should start a bet with Matt Asay over at CNET’s Open Road blog. He’s a huge Arsenal fan.
Fenerbahçe for the win, though? Wtf.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a smaller team win the competition. You’d be a fool to bet against ManU this year, though.

I run GalleryPlayer from my HTPC running vista ultimate, looks great on my 42in plasma. I havent seen any cost increase in my electric bill – plus with the TVs nowadays, you can run them for 11 hrs a day every day for 10 years and they will be fine. Who keeps a TV for 10 years? Anyways, I received the new downloads email this morning as well – did you see Natural Exposure? Wowza!
I have been looking for another customer from GalleryPlayer as I was until they shut down. Do you know why? Is it possible to retain the pictures you had purchased?
Yes, this has been done before.
Plasma Window http://www.plasmawindow.com has been selling fine art DVDs, along with aquarium, fireplace and skyscapes DVDs for several years now.
GalleryPlayer is like iTunes of high def images. Not a DVD – standard def or high def. You can download it for free – try it out.
