Microsoft patches the SP1 for Vista patch

patchedvista

Let’s try to stay with me here.

Microsoft released a service pack for Windows Vista because Vista kind of sucked as it shipped. The service pack, SP1, made many people’s Vista installs reboot permanently. So then it released an SSU (Servicing Stack Update) that Vista users were supposed to install before the SP1. This caused many people even more problems. So Microsoft today has announced a second patch, a pre-SSU update, that is to be installed before the SSU that is to be installed before SP1.

In other words Microsoft has issued a patch for its patch of its patch for its flagship OS.

Ta-da!

What those who have already skipped the SSU and installed SP1? (if that’s possible). do they uninstall SP1 and install pre-SSU, then SSU, then SP1?

And what about those who got mixed up and installed SP1 then SSU? do they now uninstall SSU first or SP1 to install pre-SSU?

Thankfully, I’ve installed none of the above…but it’s good to know that I should always wait for others to screw up before I do anything. Thanks

Nope, it’s not for everyone. If your SP1 update went fine, you’re set. If it caused problems, well, you have to patch your computer, check the SP1, see if it works, if not then patch the patch, walk outside, spit, turn around three times, curse Derek Jeter’s name, stomp a foot, and try again.

Thanks for making me appreciate my Mac Mini. I think I’m going to hug it now.
