The British are Coming: Carphone Warehouse to enter US market in 2008

We know that Carphone Warehouse has an antiquated brand, being that almost nobody uses carphones anymore, but that’s not stopping the numero uno retailer of mobiles in the UK from crossing the Atlantic.

Not only is the retail giant planning on invading the shores with its own stores, and store-within-a-store-type kiosks in Best Buy stores.

In the Seattle area, we have a chain called Car Toys. Car Toys generally has the best deals on handsets for switchers and has deals with most major carriers, meaning in-store competition between them is tough, which is good for the consumer. Carphone Warehouse will likely use a similar method to keep prices down. If you’re a phone nerd like I am, take notice now.

  • Regarding the carphones: I think it’s quite possible they do it the same way like in Germany: they just call their shops “The Phone House”, the whole carphone thing really seams a little bit antiquated.

  • Outside the UK they are called The Phone House. They’ll almost certainly be called that in the US.
