Wow. You need to know what you are talking about BEFORE you start talking. Wiretaps are ordered by the judicial branch of your local government. FiOS internet is not SHARED broadband and your speed is dedicated and constant. Cable IS shared and you speed will vary depending on the demand on the node that serves you. The down load speed is virtually unlimited and I regularly install 20/5, 20/20 & 50/10 service here in Delaware. VOIP prioviders are ‘parasite’ services that CANNOT exist without an existing broadband connection. Since deregulation it has been an ongoing battle to level the playing field between those that built, maintain and operate the communications networks and those that only ‘use’ it to make a profit with minimal overhead. Who do you think repairs the lines when Vonage (ie) can’t operate? Verizon or the incumbent Teclom in your area.

Verizon currently offers up to a 50mbps download speed to residential customers.

In the case of equivalent speeds of FiOS and cable, FiOS would be much less expensive.

im in albany, ny and it sais not available in my area, but yesterday i called and set up to get fios, wtf, so it is available, verizon needs to update its site or something, whats up with dat

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Its Verizon who should be sued for their incessant fios commercials. As a matter of fact, Ive called cablevision asking them to pull all fios commercials off the air. This is the same big bad pots company that wanted to have voip rates increased and one of the companies being sued for wiretapping us. Their fios commercials are misleading because in no way, shape or form is fios internet better than cable. I get 30mbps cable and verizon cant match that. Even if they could, I have serious ethical and privacy issues with them. Anyone interested in democracy should NEVER choose Verizon.

Lately I have seen a few Comcast commercials that send a similar message and I believe they show a house with a satellite dish. They are the “Relatively Recent News” brief ads. Anyone else seem them?

I have Verizon FIOS (one of the first areas they rolled out in Texas) and to be totally honest, they only started offering FIOS TV last year. Verizon signed me up with DirectTV satellite (partner deal) when I first signed up for FIOS. They didn’t start offering the TV service until I had been with them for over a year… This commercial would’ve been true in Texas before they started offering FIOS TV.

Verizon wants your phone number for one reason. To call you and try to sell slow DSL to you, if FIOS is not available. Put your number in, even a cell phone and within 2 days Verizon is going to call you with that sales pitch.

I just asked someone for a quote on a 30MBit MPLS or DS3. They said I had to have a phone number at the facility before they could give me a quote. What? I DON’T have phone service at an empty facility, I am building it out.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Fios isn’t really available in California right? I would go with AT&T U-Verse but the whole credit check thing puts me off. I’m trying to start up cable, not buy a car nor am I financing anything, sheesh.

I don’t have a landline in my apartment and the FiOS availability checked out fine.

The installation service is another matter entirely, but the website worked.
