$399 Leopard machine from small company, potential lawsuit magnet
by John Biggs on April 14, 2008

A company called Psystar is promising a $399 “Leopard-compatible” PC with OS X pre-installed. No one has verified these claims but there’s some talk that it’s a variant of the osx86project running on stock hardware. We shall see. Sadly, the site is currently hosed.

Power Computing, anyone?

  • Yeah now this is some weird move. I have given my opinions on this issue, http://saranx.com/technology/gizmos/399-leopard-pc-psystar-openmac

  • Saran — I read your post, and was wondering the same thing. This company could conceivably tweak their hardware to make the OSX easy to install, and then sell them as a package — computer and software sold as a bundle but not actually install the OSX OS. That way the person whoi actually installs the OS is violating the EULA, not the company. Ye4ah, sticky legally, however they are not really breaking the law….just guessing tho’.

Also, I do know that this is not in the same league as the ModBook, as that is licensed.

  • Hey diem…

Nice of you to share your knowledge too..
So by doing that it prevents the company from being filed for a lawsuit ?

Any idea on how Modbook got such license ? And not facing any legal problems when their design is like a clone of the Macbook Pro ?
