Codec licences follow one unit. It's like if you buy Windows Vista you can only install it on one laptop, you are not allowed by Microsoft to install it on many laptops with the same serial number thus licence. It's the same thing going on for codec and software licences.

I'm curious: if you've already purchased the addons for another Archos device, can you use them on this device as well?

You have to consider it records TV in Mpeg4 which saves disc space on the hard drive, while all other DVRs on the market record in Mpeg2 from the DVB feeds which take 3-4 times more disk space on hard drives. This is the perfect DVR to use in combination with a portable Archos device, so you can take with you the days recorded TV shows to watch on the bus, the metro or the train on the way to school or to work. This way the TV+ can be a dedicated Mpeg4 DVR that also can record throughout the day while you take the portable Archos with you. Consider also that the TV+ costs about $200 less then the same capacity 80GB Archos PMP, and $150 cheaper then the 160GB PMP with 90GB extra storage cause you also have to consider that the TV+ comes with the DVR Station functionality built-in instead of an LCD, portable form factor and a battery.

So I would say that a good idea for an Archos fan would be to save the $100 on the DVR Station, and but the TV+ instead. The price of the TV+ starts nearly as low as $200, so that's just $100 more then the DVR Station's street price for a stationary Archos to permanently stay by the TV.
